GILBANE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY

Gilbane Construction Company's Richmond offices are part of an adaptive re-use of a single-story warehouse building located in Scott’s Addition Historic District in Richmond. The design of the space intends to reveal and celebrate the structure’s utilitarian past, dividing existing warehouse space for the open workspace of two office tenants.

The building is a one-story, concrete block, light industrial and office space, operating for over 40 years as a printing plant and a manufacturing facility for asphalt testing products. The methodical renovation and historic restoration stripped away layers of past build-outs to allow the buildings unique structural characteristics to reveal themselves while introducing a minimal aesthetic of contemporary office space.
