SHEPPARD STREET OFFICES

An adaptive re-use of a single-story auto body shop in a building dating from 1900, this project is characterized by its strategic vertical expansion and shifting double-height spaces. The existing masonry shell has been retained as the lower level of mixed commercial tenants, utilizing existing exterior loading bays as new patio spaces. At the north side of the site, the ground level walls form the foundation of a new addition, a steel framed structure featuring clerestory windows and storefront sliding doors to maximize daylighting. The prior use of the building as a body shop was an inspiration for many of classic car design cues in the interiors, including bespoke furniture fabricated by local craftsmen. Murals and custom metal stairs complete the vintage auto aesthetic.
